With Cross Ange I watched the first five minutes and just wasn't into it so I dropped it but Luke watched a few episodes and started off liking it though I don't think he does anymore. I'm sure he'll comment on it once he sees this.
I watched the first maybe minute of the bear one and didn't quite understand what it was I was seeing so figuratively walked away from it.
This season for me, as of right now, is:
- Cute High Earth Defence Club LOVE - Tokyo Ghoul - Garo (Continued) - Parasyte (Continued) - JJBA - Assassination Classroom - Death Parade - Rolling Girls
With "Assassination Classroom", I'm not sure if I should continue watching because we're supposed to be getting the manga for review and I don't know if I want to ruin the experience of seeing it for the first time.

Five minutes? You're pretty harsh with the chances you give! I know a lot of people would've been put off Cross Ange by the early episodes but the last handful I've watched (I'm up to 11) have been really good.
Ah, the manga vs anime thing. I haven't decided on a set way to deal with that like I have with books vs movies. I usually end up with anime first though, and then continue reading the manga afterwards. But I don't have to review my manga, I guess it could be best for you to go into that with no expectations.
Are you gonna check out Sengoku Musou?

Yeah I am a little harsh when it comes to this but Luke has described what happens to me and it just doesn't seem my style so I never bothered to pick it up. With Sengoku Musou, I watched the entire two seasons of Sengoku Basara and really enjoyed it. Than I was a little naughty and watched Judge End even though it wasn't getting a legal release and was fairly dissapointed by it. Now, after that, I just don't have it in me to watch another Sengoku Basara series. My expectations are way to low now after being so up high. It's like a roller coaster! I love samurai content so much and lately, thanks to madman, I've been reading heaps of the Manga "vagabond" and now I've come to appreciate the more "realistic" and "regal" samurai story. Clearly I'm all over the place...

Well, I haven't seen all the Sengoku Basara stuff but having just watched the OVA and first episode of Sengoku Musou, I have to say I'm super impressed and it exceeded my expectations. The battle scenes were so good!! I would definitely say to check this one out. Having said that...the OVA does need to be watched first, and has some pretty cheesy scenes early on, but the second half is when all the action comes. The first episode of the series was a bit much at first because there are a lot of characters they were showing off, but then the battle scenes...and now I can't wait to see the next episode So maybe this is just because I haven't seen a lot of samurai stuff...or maybe this is because it's awesome and you need to watch. That's for you to decide!

On your recommendation I will sit down and watch the OVA/first episode. I think maybe I should continue with it since I've come this far with the series. The action in Sengoku basara is always over the top and really good so if you say that has continued I'll have to watch it now.

Ah, the pressure of a recommendation being followed! I hope you like it. It seemed to me as something you would quite enjoy (the first episode, not the OVA). I am glad the show seems to be a lot more serious than the OVA. Some moments of the OVA made me laugh when I wasn't sure I was meant to...

By the way guys, KanColle is another surprise for me this season. When I watched the first episode I thought the start was a little dull, but the action was good - last night I watched the second episode and loved it. And there wasn't really any action in it (it's coming in the next episode). Potential to be a really awesome series *fingers crossed*

I'm totally spamming this thread now, but I just wanted to say how much I love Akatsuki no Yona. I've finally got myself back up to date after falling behind and I really think it's going to end up in my favourites list when it's done (I see there's no number of episodes on MAL so I guess no one knows yet - I don't want it to end, I hope it's a long series). As you guys know, I haven't seen a lot of anime, but Yona feels pretty unique to me of what I have seen, in a way I can't really describe, it's just the feeling of the show. And I love the characters and how their histories are shown so you know so much about them, even when they're just joining the group - because hey, going around finding the dragons is an idea that could have been done in the most awful way. Plus, it's just so PRETTY.

I've seen you tweet about it I think but I actually have no idea what it is. What's it about? It looks a little supernatural-ly.

Yona? Well, I'm terrible at describing things but basically the story is that she is a princess living a sheltered life, until the man she loves kills her father and takes over the kingdom and she escapes with her father's bodyguard, Hak, to avoid being killed. So now she's discovering life outside the castle, and finding allies to help her. There's not a great deal of plot points, the show is following her journey. But it's very interesting, and fun. Luke can probably give you a better idea. Not sure if he's still watching but I know he was enjoying it early on. I have a feeling it's not one you would enjoy very much though.

Sounds interesting but yeah you might be right. I'm more one for the action-packed anime series. I still havn't checked out sengoku basara or whatever the new one is called but I have seen Yatterman Night. Have you seen that one?

Akatsuki no Yona is great. It is one of those special shojo series that really is just above the standard grade stuff. I still retain that I get a real disney princess vibe from the series which is of course a compliment. It unfortunately doesn't have as big a following as it truly deserves.

Yeah, I think a lot of people judged Yona without watching it. Happy to say that my tweeting some screen caps from the first couple of episodes got someone on twitter to change their mind and start watching it and they love it too. And I agree that the Disney princess vibe you mentioned early on is still there for me also.
As for Yatterman Night, I haven't seen that and didn't know anything of it until I heard you guys talking about it on the podcast. It sounds interesting, but not enough for me to pick up with everything else I'm watching. If it turns out to be a really good series I'll watch it later on.

At two episodes in it's pretty good but it hasn't quite captivated me as much as I thought it would. Don't get me wrong, it's still a good watch, i'm just curious to see where it'll go.

Haha for a second I thought you were talking about Yona and had started watching it for some reason - then I remembered I mentioned Yatterman also.
There are a couple of shows I'm having those kind of thoughts about. Next few weeks will be interesting. I'm slightly behind already, as I put aside a few episodes to be able to finish JoJo so I can start on the current series. Good thing I have a long weekend to help with catching up again. (I also have a few currently-airing Japanese dramas that I will be trying to keep up to date with as well as all the anime)
